Bruce County is holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event this Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Southampton Works Yard, 429 Peel Street in Southampton, from 8am to 1pm.

"Residents of Bruce County are encouraged to remove hazardous waste materials from their homes, garages, and basements and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner," read a September 16 media release from Bruce County.

Household hazardous waste materials include: paints and stains, propane tanks, used oil, aerosols, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters, solvents, household cleaners, fluorescent lights, fertilizers, fuel, pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, pesticides, and pool chemicals.

"Please note that commercial waste, agricultural waste, industrial waste, PCBs, ammunitions, and flares will not be accepted," the release added. "Only containers with a volume of 30 litres or less will be accepted."

Waste must be received in containers that can be disposed of. Containers such as gas cans will not be emptied and returned. Empty metal paint cans are blue box recyclable.
