halloffame 560The Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame selection committee is pleased to announce this year’s inductees into the Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame for 2017. Earl and Geordie Farrell, Sarah Hall Casanova and Alda Wilson have been selected with a dinner and ceremony planned for May.

Earl and Geordie Farrell are being inducted in the Builder category as the creators and long time coaches of the highly successful Saugeen Track & Field Club. Earl and Geordie have coached many nationally as well as internationally ranked athletes.

Sarah Hall Casanova is being inducted as an Athlete for a very successful amateur swimming career. Hall began swimming with the Port Elgin Breakers Swim Club and advanced to Canadian university ranks. She was named the University of Guelph Female Athlete of the Year in 1988 and was inducted into the University of Guelph Gryphons Hall of Fame in 2012.

Alda Wilson is also being inducted as an Athlete. Wilson was born in Port Elgin in 1910 and lived there until her late teens when her family moved to Toronto. Wilson competed for the Lucky Horseshoe Track Club, reaching the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics for the 80 metre hurdles and the 1934 British Empire Games.

All will be inducted into the Hall at a dinner and ceremony at the Saugeen Shores Community Complex, upstairs in the Rotary Hall on Thursday, May 11. The evening starts at 6:30. Tickets are $40 each and the public is welcome to attend. For information contact Rob Dunlop at 519-483-6513
