Fitness Funatics is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Fitness FUNattack Finale April 22.
For several years Shelley Greig, owner and manager at Fitness Funatics, has created an amazing fundraiser in support of the need to purchase equipment at the hospital.
Greig believes in setting goals and had always wanted to be a runner because it was an excellent goal setting exercise but it also offered fitness benefits and a sense of accomplishment when a goal was reached such as running a marathon.
However, despite being physically fit and active, when Greig tried running, she found that it was not something that her body was capable of doing and it drove her crazy. Then she had an “a-ha” moment and created the annual FUNattack fundraiser for Saugeen Memorial Hospital. Participants take part in five tough hours of fitness classes including spinning, kick boxing, pumping muscle, TRX and boot camp, with breaks and snacks in between.
The FUNattack is now in its sixth and final year. So far, this amazing group has raised almost $50,000 for equipment. The money has been used to purchase a portable defibrillator transport unit, a pediatric crash cart, pediatric tonsil kits, blood bank fridge, an infection control tent, and patient lift.
The Southampton Hospital is currently undergoing renovations and will soon have a new emergency room area that is going to need new equipment. Greig said, “since this is our last and final FUNattack we want to go out with a bang and have set our goals high from our yearly $10,000 goal to $20,000.”
