The Wismer House is facing the newest COVID restrictions head on and taking on a "glass half full" approach.

"We wanted to make the best of it so came up with this idea after we heard about the new regulations," said Wismer House owner Jeff Carver in a recent interview. "They said we could do outdoor dining so we're going to do outdoor dining," he said.

From noon until 5pm every Saturday during lockdown, and following COVID protocols, The Wismer House is offering an Après Ski/Sled/Homeschool outdoor patio, complete with a fire pit, beer, warm apple cider and a specialty lunch menu.

"Come as you are and dress for the weather!" read a recent Facebook post that has garnered positive response. "We don't make these rules after all, we're just following them." In a comedic spin, the post features someone in full winter gear, complete with goggles and a face mask, with the premier in his now famous "thumbs up" pose.

Carver said he would like to see other restaurants and pubs throughout Saugeen Shores get involved, to get people outside, a "winter pub crawl" of sorts. For restaurants that don't have currently a patio, he's hoping accommodations can be made, in cooperation with the Town, for sidewalk dining.

"We’re also so stoked to be part of a great community and we appreciate all of our restaurant peers in this hard time," read the Wismer's Facebook post. "Let’s remember to support all local restaurants in person, at home and any way we can!"

The Saturday patio events at The Wismer House will continue throughout the lockdown and will be postponed in case of a storm.

"Let's find a way to have some some fun and help each other out," said Carver. "Let's be smart and safe and social."
