The Saugeen Shores Girls Silver Stick Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Tournament showed great talent, inspirational athletes, and even brought a community together to cheer the Saugeen Shores Storm Bantam B team all the way to victory in an intense game that was won in overtime against the Barrie Sharks.
The three day tournament, now its 15th year, was sponsored by Scotiabank to promote Hockey Day in Canada, and was highlighted on the national stage Saturday, February 6 when camera crews rolled during the tournament and local athletes were given the spotlight as three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Botterill was on-air with CBC and Sportsnet.

Although the Olympian had never been to Saugeen Shores before she felt at home in the arena, complimenting Saugeen Shores saying it was “beautiful”, adding that the memorial tournament is an amazing celebration of the game.
“For us, it reminds us of growing up and playing in all those tournaments and how special those times were,” Botterill said February 6. She added “the girls are very curious, they want to hear the stories of these (CWHL) players and it’s great to see that they have their idols to look up too. It’s very special.”
Saugeen Shores had four girls’ teams in the tournament, the champs, Bantam B; and Storm, Atom C; Pee Wee C, and Novice C. Other tournament winners were: Midget C - Blyth Brussels Crusaders, Bantam C - BCH Ice Stars, Pee Wee C - TCDMHA Rebels, Atom C - Grey Highlands Shooting Stars and Novice C - North Middlesex Stars.
