fullOver 100 players have entered the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Golf Tournament, to be held at the Saugeen Golf Club, Thursday August 20.

Proceeds from this year’s event are in support of the Hospital Campaign for the new ER and Laboratory in Southampton. Construction is targeted to start this Spring.

The day will commence with Shot Gun Start at 1:00pm and will include: 18 Holes of Golf, Putting Contest, Hole in One Prize of $7000, Ball Toss. Dinner will be held at 6:30pm and will be MC’d by John Divinski as well as a Live Auction with renowned local Auctioneer Pat O’Connor officiating.

Henry Weickert the Golf Committee Chair said, “We are delighted that we have over 100 players out supporting our local hospital, and we are thrilled with the fantastic support from over 150 hole sponsors and prize donors that together will help us reach our $20,000 target. There are still spots available for a few more players and they can enter by contacting the Pro Shop at Saugeen.”

This year’s major sponsors include: Bruce Power, Martin’s Home Hardware, Bruce Telecom, Ontario Power Generation, BJS Electric, Reid’s Heritage Homes, Cuisinart Canada and Rowland’s Independent. Hills Insurance is sponsoring the $7000 Hole in One prize and Peninsula Ford Lincoln has sponsored the Closest to the Pin prizes.

The SMH Auxiliary mandate is to provide “direct compassionate patient care and comfort” through volunteering in various departments at the Hospital, such as Registration, Greeting & Directing Patients, Day Surgery and funding the Pastoral Care program. In addition, the Auxiliary, through its various fund raisers, is a huge financial support to the Hospital Foundation in the purchasing of medical equipment for the Hospital.

The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, in partnership with the other foundations that make up Grey Bruce Health Service, is committed to raising $11.4m as part of the Hospital Campaign. Locally the Campaign is raising $2.9m, $1.8m for the new ER and Lab, $300,000 for other site improvements and $800,000 towards new regional cancer care facilities.
