Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) says they are "overjoyed" to announce the arrival of their BCPL Bookmobile. The long-awaited mobile library "is designed to bring the joy of reading and learning directly to underserved communities throughout Bruce County," read a recent media release from BCPL.
The Bookmobile began visiting stops on the fall and winter schedule on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Anyone interested can access their route calendar at library.brucecounty.on.ca/bookmobile-schedule.
"Route locations were carefully chosen to ensure maximum outreach to neighbourhoods with limited access to traditional Library services," read the release, adding that remote communities, senior isolation and mobility, and financial barriers were all taken into consideration when planning the route.
Library Director Brooke McLean said BCPL was excited to introduce the Bookmobile as an extension of their library, adding that through a mobile branch they can effectively provide equal access to literature, education and technology to all members of BCPL's communities. "We are immensely grateful for the generosity of our donors, who made the Bookmobile a reality," McLean said.
Patrons can expect a collection of books, DVDs, and educational materials, including tech kits. The Bookmobile is also outfitted with a free Wi-Fi hub and wireless printing. Bookmobile staff are dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space and assisting patrons of all ages, said the release.
"The Bookmobile will surely be a promising hub of learning and imagination for everyone," the release said.
An official launch party is in the works with a date expected shortly. In the meantime everyone is invited to find a nearby location to see the unit in person.
"Remember to watch for it on the road and give them a wave," the release said.
