As of today, May 4, Saugeen Shores Hub has received word that two area Pride parades are returning after a long hiatus due to COVID.

The Owen Sound Pride Parade is set for Saturday, June 18 and Kincardine Pride's parade and celebration will take place the following week on Saturday, June 25.

Owen Sound's celebration 'Tinsel and Tassel Throwing it Back to Disco' will begin and end at the Owen Sound Farmers' Market, 88 8th Street East. It will leave the market site at 2pm and following the parade, an after party for all ages, 'Pride Street Fair,' will be held with music and a barbecue on the market patio.

The Kincardine 'Show Your Pride' event is a family friendly and accessible and will depart from Kincardine District Secondary School, 885 River Lane, at 11am. A celebration will follow at the parade's end, Victoria Park, 310 Durham Market Street North, promises all ages entertainer, Saidat, and the Pine River Line Dancers.

In a recent media release, Kincardine Pride said that central to Pride Month, recognized internationally in the month of June, is not only celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community and recognizing that 'love is love,' regardless of gender expression and sexual orientation, but also "learning the history of the social injustices, persecution and discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and others of 'non-traditional' gender identities and expressions."

"There's still much education and work to be done towards overcoming long-standing prejudices and misconceptions before we achieve equity for all," read the release.
