Sisters on Huron has been an active part of downtown Southampton for nearly 20 years. Back in 2003, founder Delores Sullivan began with a mission to supply locals and tourists with a selection of quality trends that were both stylish and comfortable. Her business was about more than just selling fashion as Sullivan also made it a priority to give back to her community through donations, fundraisers and participation in community events.

This past year has made it exceedingly difficult to maintain a healthy business let alone offer help to local charities and non-profits. While Sullivan has continued working with her clients, offering virtual appointments, but opted not to start an online shop as she believes that the touch and feel of the clothing is a big part of the shopping experience.

In a January 28 interview, Sullivan explained that the advantage of being a small boutique is that she knows her clients well, knowing their sizes and what they like.

As Sullivan began her annual winter coat sale in mid-January she saw an opportunity to help those struggling though the pandemic by asking her customers to donate their used coat when purchasing a new one. “Make room in your closet,” suggested Sullivan, the outcome of which has been heartwarming. Not only have shoppers jumped on board, some have taken it one step further and purchased a brand new coat to donate.

Sullivan has partnered with United Way of Bruce Grey (UWBG) who will be able to distribute the coats to local residents in need. The first rack of winter coats was safely delivered to UWBG in Owen Sound on January 26, half of which were new coats.

“I have to give credit to the community I live in, my customers are fabulous," said Sullivan.

Sisters on Huron will continue to take coat donations until the end of winter. No purchase is necessary to make a donation, explained Sullivan, who will pick up and deliver coats to UWBG.
