Soon a few Saugeen Shores Police Service members will be mentoring current Police Foundation students at Georgian College’s Owen Sound Campus.
In a February 2 media release, the mentorship will take place virtually and last for five weeks with the officer committing 6 to 10 hours of time with the student. “We are excited to partner with Georgian College to share our knowledge and experiences, with a united goal of developing our next generation of police officers.”, said Chief of Police Kevin Zettel, calling the experience “rewarding” for Saugeen Shores officers.
Once connected virtually the officer and the student will discuss topics relating to policing. “During these sessions the officer can relate to the student their own professional experiences about the topics,” read the release.
The program is expected to commence in the coming weeks and will involve other municipal police services as well as the Ontario Provincial Police.
