The Town of Saugeen Shores is exploring other funding options after learning last week that it was not successful in grant applications to the federal government's Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) for the YMCA recreation facility and Lamont Sports Park.

The Town informed media Friday that ICIP officials said the Community, Culture and Recreation funding stream was "highly competitive," with requests nearing $10 billion compared to $1 billion in available funds.

“Saugeen Shores is a growing community and will take this outcome in stride,” said Mayor Charbonneau. “Our efforts towards making the YMCA and Lamont Sports Park a reality will continue as we explore other financial tools to support these projects.”

Saugeen Shores has been building its Legacy Fund since 2018 with a goal "to expand the community’s financial capacity in responsibly self-funding projects such as these," read a recent media release.
