Saugeen Shores Council has tentatively approved the plan to reopen Centennial Pool in the coming weeks. At the August 10 Committee of Whole meeting, staff will take a gradual, phased-in approach, with the safety of staff, participants and the public central to planning, read an August 10 media release.
Some operations will be different, for example, due to physical distancing measures and capacity limitations, traditional swimming lessons cannot be offered right away.
The Town is launching a public poll to further understand the community’s desire to return to the facility, the types of programs they’re looking for, and in what capacity they plan to return.
The public can complete the survey online before August 18, 2020 at 4:30 pm at SaugeenShores.ca/HaveYourSay. Paper copies are also available at the Municipal Office, 600 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin during regular business hours. Completed surveys can be dropped off using the drop box at the Municipal Office.
“Aquatics is an important part of many residents’ physical and mental health,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “We welcome the public back to Centennial Pool with the new measures in place to mitigate risks during the pandemic.”
The pool has been closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 13, 2020. A community education campaign will welcome back patrons and inform the public of new expectations and procedures.
