A familiar and beloved scene, Captain Wayne Sparrow guiding one of the many cardboard boats during the 2019 Marine Heritage Festival at Pioneer Park.

The Marine Heritage Festival Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 festival. In an April 9 media release, the festival, along with its beloved cardboard boat races, was scheduled for July 24 to 26 and the committee made in the decision in the best interest of volunteers, spectators and participants.

"We would like to thank our generous sponsors from the community for their continued support, our faithful volunteers for their many hours of time, and to the many participants and spectators who come out each year," read the release. "We look forward to seeing everyone again July 23 to July 25, 2021 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Marine Heritage Festival."

"Stay safe and stay home," said the release.
