At the Special Council Meeting April 6, Saugeen Shores Council agreed to suspend penalties on 2020 property taxes for 90 days from the original due date of May 21.

Council also agreed that Saugeen Shores will match the County of Bruce’s policy for the August 20 property tax due date. This means that if the County of Bruce extends their due date for payments for the third installment, Saugeen Shores will do so as well.

Council also suspended penalties on water and sewer billing for 90 days past the original due date for the billing cycles due April 30 and June 30. All Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) charges will be waived until September 30, 2020.

FISHING RESTRICTIONS

Under provincial orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, the following parks and amenities are closed until further notice:

Denny’s Dam
Chesley Street Park
Fisherman’s Park
Southampton Harbour
Port Elgin Harbour (including the north harbour parking lot and the children’s fishing dock)
All boat launch ramps
Nodwell Park track

Until further notice, boat launches are closed and recreational fishing from municipal land is not permitted in Saugeen Shores. Saugeen Shores Police Services is patrolling these key areas to watch for groups of people congregating.

At the Port Elgin Harbour, walk through access is permitted on the Waterfront Promenade and North Shore Trail. The north harbour parking lot, launch ramp and winter boat storage area are closed to the public. As well, there is no walk through access in the Port Elgin and Southampton tourist camps, which remain closed to the public.

“Along with the Saugeen Shores Police Services, we are ensuring that everyone follows the emergency measures from the province,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “As much as we love to enjoy the amenities Saugeen Shores has to offer, we all need to protect ourselves and each other so we can get through the pandemic together.”
