For the first time in three years the Saugeen Shores water treatment system, run by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), received a 100 percent rating from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) in 2018.
Town of Saugeen Shores Director of Infrastructure and Development Amanda Froese was happy to announce the news during the January 14 Committee of a Whole and will present an annual report to council when it becomes available. The complete report is available upon request from the Town.
The drinking water system had zero non-compliances during an annual inspection by the MECP. In 2017 the MECP found four non-compliances for a 96.15 percent rating and seven non-compliances in 2016 resulting in a rating of 89.96 percent. The non-compliance issues of the past were centred around logbook procedure and an unlicensed operator in 2016 which was quickly rectified.
Following the information report to council Vice-Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt was happy to hear that OCWA had “stepped up their game."
“I know staff worked extremely hard with OCWA and they did step up to the plate," said Myatt, adding that an inspection rating of 100 percent and zero non-compliances has come a long way.
Myatt then commended both parties for their work, a sentiment echoed by Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
