On December 6, a failure of a transformer outside the Unit 8 building at the Bruce B generating station, resulted in a release of mineral oil. The Unit was offline for planned maintenance.
In a Bruce Power email, there is a collection system designed and in place to capture mineral oil under these circumstances. Bruce Power is confirming that all of the mineral oil is captured and will recover as appropriate. While monitoring is ongoing, there is no indication of mineral oil reaching Lake Huron.
Bruce Power’s response teams and fire suppression systems responded as trained and designed. As a result of this, the situation is contained. One employee was treated for heat stress and is resting at home.
