bwdsbBluewater District School Board (BWDSB) is holding an information meeting on Monday, November 5 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) regarding a grades relocation at the Port Elgin area schools.

Due to significant growth in elementary school enrolment, there is an immediate need to address classroom shortages in September 2019 while board staff work towards a long term solution. There are currently sufficient unused excess classrooms at Saugeen District Secondary School to accommodate senior elementary students, which will allow the elementary schools to accommodate their growing populations. At the information meeting, staff will share transition plans for the relocation of Grades 7 and 8 students and answer parent/guardian questions regarding the following changes:

The recommended option for Northport Elementary School, currently a JK to Grade 8 school, would become become a JK to Grade 6 school. École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESCS), currently JK to Grade 8, would become a JK to Grade 6. SDSS would go from being a Grade 9 to 12 to a Grade 7 to 12 school.

Please visit bwdsb.on.ca/business/GradesRelocation_PortElgin for full details on relocation.

An email account has been created for parents, guardians and community members to ask questions and/or seek clarification. Common themes from the email submissions will be addressed by board staff at the information meeting and as part of a Question and Answer on the web page above. Submissions are being accepted at peprogramreview@bwdsb.on.ca until Tuesday, November 13.
