The Salvation Army Food Bank in Port Elgin received a welcome donation of both food and money raised from the BIA’s Cookies with Mrs. Claus event held at The Wismer House November 18.

Four bags full of food plus $50 collected in cash donations were handed over to Ed Giles of the Salvation Army Community & Family Service at Maple Square Mall, Port Elgin, November 25. Plus an extra $50 cheque was donated in Mrs. Claus' name as a thank you to her for helping out. BIA Coordinator, Laura McInnes also said they wanted to send out a big thank you to Deb Legault for her volunteering and the special role she played.

Giles welcomed the donations, which will go to help local families this Christmas. “On average we do 55 to 60 families a month, right now the Christmas hamper applications are up to 118 and are still coming in,” he said. “Last year I think we were around 130. If it keeps going like this it will surpass it.”
