The Grey Bruce We C.A.R.E Project is hosting the third annual 'Share Event’, addressing youth mental health and wellness. This event, which will take place at the Plex in Port Elgin, is an opportunity for both adults and youth to Connect, Ask, Reach and Engage with one another on issues relating to youth mental health in Grey and Bruce counties.
Keynote speaker Erica Humphrey, an inspiring Generation Y speaker with a message for youth and adults asks, “Have you considered being your own Superhero?” Erica explores how she broke the cycle of abuse, addictions and mental health challenges in her own life to become a sought after speaker, fitness expert and author.
Local mental health professionals and youth with lived experience will offer breakout sessions on a variety of topics including anxiety, depression, dealing with stress, self-care, indigenous mental health and social media. There will also be opportunities to develop coping strategies through workshops such as yoga, martial arts, self-care, mindfulness and pet therapy.
The 'Share Event’ is free to attend, is open to youth and adults and includes free lunch. It is set to take place on Friday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Grey Bruce We C.A.R.E. Project brings together more than a dozen community agencies and area school boards to support youth mental health and wellness. Their vision is that everyone in Grey Bruce will make a commitment to show We C.A.R.E (Connect with, Ask about, Reach out to, and Engage) about youth and their families to increase awareness, understanding, compassion and support for youth mental health.
