Northport Elementary School's highly anticipated Christmas Dinner and Skate was a day to remember as 375 children and over 60 staff and volunteers took part.
With the number of participants skating and needing to be fed, the classes were divided into three groups. While one skated the others enjoyed their lunch. In a Northport Elementary School submission, approximately 25 volunteers helped to cook and serve all of the hungry participants a delicious turkey dinner with all of the fixings.
This 10 year tradition couldn't happen without the help of so many. A big thank you to all the parents for donating their time to help cook and serve the food, tie skates, and for donating some of the turkeys.
Thanks again to P & H in Hanover who also donated turkeys again this year. Thanks also to the Port Elgin Legion Ladies Auxiliary for cooking all of the turkeys, Topp Performance for sponsoring the ice time, Jeff Carver at the Wismer House for coming through at the 11th hour and to the wonderful staff at The Plex who helped the event run smoothly.
Thank you to Kerri Gallop who has done such an amazing job organizing this event for the last five years. It's always been a great success, especially with her wonderful family always there to help out. And finally, thanks to Janet and Mike Lemcke who started this tradition 10 years ago.
The children at Northport are very fortunate to have traditions like this one that will hopefully continue for years to come.
