There are plenty of fun activities happening in Saugeen Shores to help you and your family pass the time before the kids return to school January 7. Here is a sampling. 

DECEMBER 28TH

A Holiday Skate will take place at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Dr in Port Elgin on December 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., sponsored by Super 8 Port Elgin.

Dinosaur Day, part of Winter Family Fun Days at Bruce County Museum, 33 Victoria St N in Southampton, will be held December 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will answer the question: Were there dinosaurs in Bruce County?

Activities include a scavenger hunt and a PG rated movie at 2 p.m. General admission applies.

DECEMBER 29TH

On December 29 a Holiday Skate will again take place at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Dr, from 10:30 to noon sponsored by St Joseph's School Parent Council.

All Day LEGO will be held at the Southampton Library, 215 High Street, December 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Let your imagination run wild with the library’s LEGO collection and build something awesome.

Learning with Laura including stories and activities will be held at the Port Elgin Library, 708 Goderich Street, December 29 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. All ages are welcome.

Winter Family Fun Days continue at Bruce County Museum, 33 Victoria St N, December 29 with Get Cozy. Activities include rag rugs, fur, and knitting as well as a scavenger hunt. The PG rated Eight Below will be showing at 2 p.m. General admission applies.

DECMEBER 30TH

Another Holiday Skate will take place December 30 at the Southampton Coliseum, 26 Albert Street South, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sponsored by Mowbray’s Canadian Tire.

A drop in LEGO Club event will be held at the Port Elgin Library from 1 to 2 p.m. December 30. It is a free event. Please contact the branch at 519-832-2201 for more information.

DECEMBER 31ST

A $2 Family Swim will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Centennial Pool, 649 Mill Creek Rd in Port Elgin.

Two New Year’s Eve Skates will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. December 31. The first will take place at the Plex in Port Elgin, 600 Tomlinson Dr, sponsored by SouthPort Church; while the second will happen at the Southampton Coliseum, 26 Albert St S, sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155.

JANUARY 1ST

The #FirstDayHike will take place at MacGregor Point Park, 1593 Bruce Rd 33, with a 2pm start. Meet at the Administration building at the entrance to the park. General admission applies.

JANUARY 2ND

Join the crew at the Port Elgin Branch Library, 708 Goderich St, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for StoryTime, a preschool program to help build early literary skills by reading, talking, singing and playing with your child. Adults must stay, appropriate for ages 0 to 4 years.

A Holiday Skate will take place January 2 at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Dr from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sponsored by Tim Hortons.

Winter Family Fun Days continue January 2 at the Bruce County Museum, 33 Victoria St N, with Awesome Astronomy. General admission applies.

JANUARY 3RD

Two Holiday Skates will take place January 3. From 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Southampton Coliseum, 26 Albert St S, sponsored by Eastlink; and from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Plex, 600 Tomlinson Dr, sponsored by Sauble Christian Fellowship Church.

Winter Family Fun Days continue January 3 with Let off some steam at the Bruce County Museum. General admission applies.

JANUARY 4TH

Make a Button at the Port Elgin Branch Library January 4, 708 Goderich St, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. All supplies to make a unique button will be provided.

A Holiday Fun Swim will be held at the Centennial Pool, 649 Mill Creek Rd in Port Elgin, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. January 4. Sponsored by the Sponsored by Southampton Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155.

Winter family Fun Days continues January 4 with Art Attack at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, 33 Victoria St N. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Paint original artwork, take part in a scavenger hunt and watch PG rated Into the Woods at 2 p.m. Reserve your spot by calling 519-797-2080. Kinder Open Gym will take place at Swing, Spring & Flip Club, 1233 Mackenzie Dr in Port Elgin, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on January 4.

JANUARY 5TH

A Holiday Skate will take place at the Plex in Port Elgin January 5, 600 Tomlinson Dr, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Sponsored by the Town of Saugeen Shores.

A Holiday Fun Swim will be held at the Centennial Pool, 649 Mill Creek Rd in Port Elgin, January 5 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by Lakeside Process Controls.

Winter family Fun Days continues January 5 with Animal Tracking at the Bruce County Museum, 33 Victoria St N. General admission applies.

JANUARY 6TH

Holiday Fun Swim will be held at the Centennial Pool, 649 Mill Creek Rd in Port Elgin, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by Corner Chiropractic and Laser Clinic.

A Holiday Skate will happen at the Southampton Coliseum between 2:30 and 4 p.m. January 6. Sponsored by the Southampton Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

There are plenty of other fun activities to do over the rest of the Christmas break including:

Go on a Selfie Scavenger Hunt - pick a theme and hit the streets in search of the perfect selfie. Theme ideas include: in front of a tree, in front of a yellow car (or another colour), with something round (or pick any shape), with something that resembles the letter A (or any letter), with a street sign, with a lighthouse in the background, with something colourful. You name it! Get creative!

Feed the birds at MacGregor Point Provincial Park - a popular outdoor winter activity.

Tobogganing at Eastwood Park (weather permitting) - a tobogganing hot spot in Saugeen Shores.

Snowshoe or walk, weather dependent) around Fairy Lake - take in the serene ambience of the beloved Southampton destination.
