What do a nosey camel, a few hungry goats, and some cute and cuddly bunnies have in common? Well, they all made kids and adults smile, as they transformed Coulter Parkette into an Easter Petting Zoo, put on by the Port Elgin Business Improvement Area (BIA), March 26.
Eight-year-old Sam Kilbreth enthusiastically jumped from animal to animal letting timid children know that the animals were safe to touch and friendly.
When asked what his favourite animal was, “honestly the pigs,” he said matter of factly. “Number one, they don’t go for your hands; number two, they eat stuff off the ground; and number three, they like their belly being scratched,” said the animal enthusiast.
For Sadie Rahn, age 10, the goats were the best. “‘I’ve pet five animals,” Sadie said. “I like the baby goats cause they're cute.”
Across the street, co-owner of Bicyclette Rouge, Amy Shute said that there had been a steady stream of people all day attending the Petting Zoo, and that it looked like a well attended event. She went on to say that it was “nice to have a free activity downtown for people to enjoy.”
