After two days of rain, snow, freezing rain and power outages in Saugeen Shores, the sun ducked out from behind the clouds to shine on the Liv-A-Little Foundation's 5th annual Egg-Stravaganza, held at Saugeen Golf Club, Port Elgin, Saturday morning.
The Liv-A-Little Foundation runs various events each year to raise funds and awareness for Cystinosis research. A rare metabolic disease, Cystinosis affects just 75 children and young adults in Canada, among them Olivia Little of the Little family.
The event was sold out with one hundred families in attendance. “It's fantastic,” said Chad Little, of the Liv-A-Little Foundation, Olivia’s dad. Little said they were expecting up to 500 people in total. “I think we've got 170 kids plus parents and some grandparents,” he said.
Approximately 2,000 plastic eggs had been scattered over Saugeen Golf's driving range and the children looked for the eggs in waves with the 1 to 3 year olds going first, followed by children ages 3 to 6, and finally 6 years and older.
In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, there was plenty of Easter fun and activities on offer from face painting and Easter crafts and such activities as Bunny Hop (potato sack) Races, Egg Roll, and Bunny, Bunny, Hop, a new spin on the ever-popular Duck, Duck, Goose.
A special appearance was made by the Easter Bunny, who greeted excited children with high fives and hugs and stopped for some photo opportunities.
“For the older kids we have chocolates, which have graciously been donated by Mill Creek Chocolates,” said Little, who explained that for the younger children, they also had small stuffed animals, donated by Scott Rowland of Rowland’s Independent Grocer.
Mom to Olivia and President of the Liv-A-Little Foundation, Erin Little, thanked everyone in attendance. “We are so extremely grateful for the support from everybody,” she said.
The event raised approximately $2,500 for the Liv-A-Little Foundation and Cystinosis research.
