The Port Elgin Curling Club was home to a five course dinner by the Lipstick Ladies in support of The Woman’s House Serving Bruce and Grey and in memory of friend, Nikki Marlowe who passed away June 4, 2015 at the age of 45. Marlowe, wife of Dan Marlowe and mother to Justin, 15 and Kayla 23, grew up in Sarnia but had lived in Port Elgin for 13 years. She fell down the stairs and was airlifted to London where they found she had stage 4 breast cancer. The Lipstick Ladies are hoping to make this an annual event.
In addition to purchasing a ticket for the dinner, each lady in attendance brought an unwrapped toy or gift for an infant, child or mother and there were silent auction items, 50/50 tickets and T-shirts to purchase.
The ladies even had a chance to sit with Santa and have their picture taken before he loaded up all the gifts and toys and headed for the Women’s House. In total the Lipstick Ladies donated over $2,100.
Linda Dobson, mother of Nikki Marlowe said, “I can’t thank these ladies enough for all their hard work in making the memorial dinner such a wonderful success and special tribute to our Nikki. Also, thanks to everyone who came out to support us and this event. We are truly touched and feel incredibly blessed.”
Bernice Ribey, who organized the event along with Penny Coles, Laura Ashman, Kim Barry and Carla Pavlov, said, “We already have our menu picked out for next year.”
