There was a variety of sweet and tasty treats on offer, including cookies, gingerbread men and tarts, at the Southampton Art School on Saturday, November 28, as they held their 5th Annual Christmas Bake Sale. All tolled they raised over $1,000 for the School.
On this year's wish list was new tables and chairs, a portable projector and screen, shelving for art supply storage, new LED lighting in the School and art supplies for children's classes.
“Everything is wrapped so that it's good for gift giving or even putting right in the freezer,” explained Southampton Art School Director, Darlene McConnachie. “Most of it has been donated by gallery artists, neighbours and friends.”
A few handcrafted items were also on sale including hand painted snowmen ornaments and small, hand made wooden trees. Visitors to the sale also had the opportunity to guess the number of pennies in a jar and Linda Bastedo, who came closest to the 2,775 total, decided to donate her cash prize back to the school.
A raffle for a unique replica of Vincent van Gogh's 'Wheatfield with Crows' 1890 painting created by Glenda Hird, tied in perfectly to the Art School bake sale.
