A warm welcome by “Death” at the entrance of MacGregor Point Provincial Park’s Haunted Trail may have been the easiest part of the night for many who dared to be scared October 16.

The annual trail drew approximately 850 people last year during the two-night event, which had event organizer planning bigger and scarier effects.

MacGregor Park employees and 25 volunteers rose to the “spook-ccasion,” ready and willing to go over the top to scare and shock the brave souls who dared pass through.

Park staff started planning for the Haunted Trail in February and set up the site as early as Tuesday, October 13.

“Due to the ominous weather we have ensured most of our scenes are sheltered. We took what we did last year and have built on it, making the scenes a little more elaborate and due to the sponsorship from Bruce Bower we were able to expand our costumes and effects,” said Matthew Cunliffe, Senior Park Naturalist for MacGregor Park.

The Haunted Trail coincides with the Witches in the Woods event hosted by the Friends of MacGregor Park. The weekend includes campsite decorating, pumpkin carving, scavenger hunts, trick or treating and a campfire with a spooky cookout.

The Haunted Trail continues October 17 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. and costs $14.50 per vehicle, along with a donation of non-perishable food items. It is not recommended for children under 12 and for those who have had history of heart issues, epilepsy and for those who may be expecting.

MacGregor is always happy to accept new volunteers and if you think you have what it takes to scare, scream and stalk for next year’s event, contact matthew.cunliffe@ontario.caparkemployeesimage7image6image5
