Dave Middleton announced April 14 that the 2023 Ontario Scotties and the 2023 Ontario Tankard will be held at the Plex in Port Elgin January 23 to 29.

Both the men's and women's provincial curling championships are coming to Saugeen Shores in 2023.

In a press conference held at the Port Elgin Curling Club April 14, Dave Middleton announced that 2023 will see the Ontario Scotties and the Ontario Tankard held simultaneously at the Plex in Port Elgin from January 23 to 29.

"CurlON and the Port Elgin Curling Club, along with the community of Saugeen Shores, is here to announce the 2023 Ontario Scotties and the 2023 Ontario Tankard are both coming to Saugeen Shores," said Middleton April 14.

The winning team from both competitions will go on to represent the province at the national level. The Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be held in Kamloops, British Columbia from February 17 to 26 and the Tim Hortons Brier is set for London, Ontario March 3 to 12.

The Port Elgin club also hosted the Ontario Tankard in 2022. With 50 percent capacity due to COVID restrictions, an estimated audience of 5,500 was in attendance.

Through ticket sales, more than $22,000 was raised for 10 area curling clubs including both the Port Elgin and Southampton clubs in Saugeen Shores, the Bluewater club in Owen Sound, as well as Paisley, Tara, Chesley, Kincardine, Markdale, Walkerton and Wiarton, said a recent media release from the 2022 Tankard committee.

The Port Elgin Rotary Club's 50/50 draw raised more than $4,500 in support of Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey, Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, Canadian Tire's Jumpstart program and the Salvation Army Food Bank.
