Sunshine and seniors filled the pickleball courts on Tuesday, May 14 for the 2019 Senior Games Pickleball Tournament at Lakeshore Recreation in Port Elgin. The event was sponsored by Lakeshore and played host to 13 teams with players ranging in ages from 55 to 80 years, all members of the Saugeen Shores Pickleball Club (SSPC).
The SSPC currently has 170 members who play weekly at the Port Elgin fitness facility and this year have the opportunity to serve their balls over newly installed, permanent pickleball nets. Angela Hapulo, SSPC Ambassador expressed her gratitude toward Lakeshore owners Gord and Ann MacKay for their support of the club.
The SSPC welcomes players of all skill levels and offers lessons to those who are new to the sport. Other than the Round Robin tournaments held Thursday mornings, participants do not have to be a member of the club in order to play. The eight pickleball courts at Lakeshore are open seven days a week and both the SSPC and Lakeshore Recreation have racquets available.
