The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks traveled to Elora on Friday night and made themselves unwelcome guests, taking a 7-1 win over the Rocks.
Curtis Johnston got things going early in the first period, opening the scoring on a goal from Connor Patton and Josh Hopkin at 5:09.
After just one tally in the 1st period, the Winterhawks struck again early in the 2nd.
Captain Greg Thede stole the puck from the Rocks at the 2:44 mark, scoring unassisted to make it 2- 0 Winterhawks.
Patton would make it 3-0 at 12:19, followed by Hopkin at 15:45 to give the Winterhawks a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Elora would get on the board 3:18 of the 3rd period, ruining a shutout bid by Winterhawks goaltender Jeff Flagler.
The Elora goal did little to build momentum for the home team, as Blake Underwood answered back on the powerplay at 8:24.
Aeric Annetta would notch his first career Winterhawks goal at 9:53, followed by another first, as newly-signed Miles MacLean would round out the scoring on the powerplay, making it a 7-1 final for Saugeen Shores.
The Winterhawks are back in action tonight [Saturday] in Seaforth against the Huron East Centenaries. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
