The Durham Thundercats scored four unanswered goals on the way to a 4-1 win over the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks on Friday night in Durham.

Blake Underwood opened the scoring 1:10 into the game, beating Durham netminder Gatlin Burt off the rush, with assists to Greg Thede and Trent Hawke.

Durham would answer back in a big way, tying the game and then taking the lead with two goals in 26 seconds.

Ben Davis missed a wide open net off a faceoff in the Winterhawks zone, but would recover later in the shift to make it a 1-1 game.

Chris Brown would give the Thundercats the lead moments later, beating Jeff Flagler with a hard wrist shot in the slot.

The Winterhawks would hold a decided advantage in shots on goal all night long, but could not find a way to beat Burt.

It felt as if the tide was turning midway through the 2nd period when the Winterhawks hemmed in the Thundercats in their zone, forcing Durham to use their timeout to regroup.

However, Durham finally broke out of their zone and made it a 3-1 game at 10:35 of the 2nd, when Colin Rigney picked up a rebound off an odd-man rush, beating Flagler through the five-hole.

Rigney would add an insurance marker in the 3rd period, as the Winterhawks could not solve Burt, outshooting Durham 30-15, but falling 4-1 on the scoreboard.

The 2-2-0 Winterhawks return home on Friday November 3rd to host the Petrolia Squires. Start time at The Plex is 8:30 p.m.
