Social Athletics of Saugeen Shores kicked off the beach season with their annual Welcome to Summer Beach Volleyball Tournament. Summer responded with rainy and electrical conditions which didn’t dampen the spirits of over 30 volleyball teams who got a little wet while they made the most of the June 17 tournament at the Port Elgin Main Beach.

Event sponsor 7Acres kicked off the weekend by participating in the Merchant/Business charity tournament June 16 which saw Gord’s Pro Shop & Imprints, 7Acres, Brock’s Electric and Grey Bruce Coating & Insulation compete with the insulators taking the number one spot raising funds for the Liv-A-Little Foundation.

The tournament’s beer garden was the place to be between games on June 17 where musicians took to the stage with beverages provides by The Wismer House.

After braving the elements over the course of the day, lighting, thunder and a tornado warning caused the final matches in the Recreational and Competitive categories to be called off. Sexy Beaches and Sloppy Sets split the prize money becoming co-winners in the Competitive competition with Sandy BOTTems and Sports!! became the Recreational co-winners.
