The 22nd annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament is gearing up for another day on the links of Saugeen Golf Club July 21. The event, hosted by the Port Elgin Rotary Club, has raised over $1 million dollars for muscular dystrophy research, with particular focus on the Duchenne form of the disease.
Jeff Preston, formerly of Port Elgin, has created a promotional video ahead of this year’s tournament reintroducing the need for the tournament and showcasing how he has beat the odds of muscular dystrophy. Preston is now an Assistant Professor in Disability Studies at King’s University College at Western University, where he teaches classes on Disability in Popular Culture and Disability Policy and Legislation.
“In my lifetime we have doubled the life expectancy of boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and we are getting closer and closer to finding a cure,” said Preston in the video.
Celebrities included in the annual tournament are professional hockey defenceman Kevin Czuzman, former NHLer Kris King, former CFLer Chuck Ealey, former professional goaltender Curtis Sanford, former NHLer Paul MacDermid and former NHLer, Saugeen Shores Winterhawk Theo Peckham.
Registration forms are available at Saugeen Golf Club or online. A silent auction will be open to the public with a live auction taking place following the event.
