Swing, Spring and Flip medal at qualifying competition

Swing, Spring and Flip Club sent 15 athletes to represent Bruce County in Milton in April at the Springer Challenge hosted by the Milton Springers Gymnastics Club. This competition was a qualifier for the Level 3 to 5 athletes, where the best two scores from four competitions were counted towards ranking for provincial championships. Most of the Club athletes compete again in April in Orangeville and London.

On the first day of competition, Natasha Frankum and Cali Drope, both of Saugeen Shores, started the competition well in Level 3 (13 year old) group. Natasha had an excellent competition and scored 8.825 on Vault for 9th place, scored 8.550 on Bars for 8th place, scored 8.3 on Beam for 7th place and 8.750 on Floor for 8th place. Her All Around score of 34.55 put her in 8th place overall.

Cali scored a 9.050 on Vault for 8th place, scored 6.850 on Bars for 10th place, scored 7.975 on Beam for 10th place and 7.650 on Floor for 10th place to take 10th All Around with a total score of 31.525.

In the second session, Rylan McCulloch and Bella Hobson, both of Saugeen Shores, showed great form in the Level 3 (10 year old) group. Bella performed a great vault with tight legs and scored 9.325 for the Bronze. She scored 8.250 on Bars for 7th place and took 5th place on Beam with a score of 8.825. Her Floor routine scored 9.100 to put her in 6th place and her All Around score of 35.500 put her in 7th place overall. Rylan scored 9.025 on Vault for 8th place, 8.150 on Bars for 8th place, 8.675 for 6th place on Beam and 8.750 on Floor for 9th place. Her overall score of 34.6 put her in 9th place All Around.

Olivia McNabb, Kyra Faulkner and Natalie Wild were next in the Level 3 (11 year old) group. Olivia scored 9.025 on Vault for 6th place, scored 8.250 on Bars to place 10th, scored 8.850 on Beam to take 8th place and was also in 8th on Floor with a score of 8.550. She placed 10th All Around with a score of 34.675. Kyra also worked hard, scoring 8.850 on Vault for 10th place, 8.250 on Bars for 11th place, took 4th place on Beam with a score of 8.725 and scored 8.475 on Floor for 9th place. Her total score of 34.3 put her in 10th place overall. Natalie showed great form, and scored 8.950 on Vault for 8thplace. Her score on Bars was 8.35 for 7th place, and her score of 8.550 on Beam put her in 8thplace. She scored 7.4 on Floor to take 9th place. Her overall score of 33.175 put her in 9th place All Around. Sadie Rahn from Paisley was next in Level 4 (age 12), and had clean routines. Her score of 8.625 on Vault put her in 6th place, and her score of 8.500 on Bars placed her 9th. She took 6th place on Beam with a score of 8.750 and won the Bronze Medal on Floor with a score of 8.875. Her All Around total of 34.625 put her in 8th place overall.

The excellent form continued on the second day of competition as Taryn Strutt of Paisley had a personal best in Level 4 (age 14). She won Gold on Vault and Bars, showing straight legs and great form, scoring 9.075 and 9.400 respectively. She followed that up with amazing routines on Balance Beam and Floor, winning Silver Medals on both of those events with scores of 9.500 and 9.025. Her All Around score of 37.00 was a personal best and won her the Gold Medal.

Sabra Cannon and Aliyah Petronski were next in Level 5 (age 12 and 13 respectively). Sabra worked hard through her routines and scored 8.6 on Vault for 7th place, scored 8.725 on Bars for 8th place, took 6th place on Beam with a score of 8.750 and won 5th place on Floor with a score of 8.950. Her total score of 35.025 put her in 6th place All Around. Aliyah also worked hard when performing her routines. She scored 8.700 on Vault for 4th place, won a Bronze Medal on Bars with a score of 8.900, won Bronze again on Balance Beam with an excellent routine featuring a great handstand and a score of 8.550, and won the Gold Medal on Floor with a great back handspring and a score of 9.325. She won the Bronze Medal overall with a score of 35.475.

On the third day, Kaelynn O’Brien and Ava Bridge competed in the Level 2 (9 year old) category. Kaelynn won the Silver Medal on Vault with tight legs and a score of 9.625. She continued the great form and scored 9.025 on Bars for 6th place, and scored 8.850 on Beam for 5th place. Kaelynn finished off her performance with an excellent Floor routine, scoring 9.200 for a 4th place tie. Her overall score of 36.700 put her in 4th place All Around. Ava worked hard, and scored 9.050 on Vault for 8th place, scored 8.475 on Bars for 9th place, scored 8.375 on Beam for 8th place, and scored 8.700 on Floor for 7th place. Ava placed 9th All Around with a score of 34.600.

Ella Stepaniak finished the weekend competing in Level 2 (age 10). She scored 9.075 on Vault to place 9th, scored 8.875 on Bars for 9th place, scored 8.600 on Beam for 10th place and scored 9.075 on Floor for 7th place. Her All Around total of 35.625 put her in 9th place overall.

Silver medal for Spring, Swing and Flip Club member at provincials in Toronto

On April 6, Alyssa Moorehead competed at provincial gymnastics championships in Toronto in the Level 7, 13 year old category.

Moorehead had an amazing vault and won silver with a score of 9.300. She placed 12th on Balance Beam with a 9.200 and was 22nd on Floor with a score of 9.100. Her Bar routine earned her a score of 8.150 for 26th place. Entering the provincial championships in 32nd place, Moorehead ended up in 26th overall in Ontario with an All Around score of 35.750, an excellent improvement.

Spring, Swing and Flip headed to Orangeville

This past weekend, April 22 and 23, the 7 and 8 year olds from Spring, Swing and Flip Club headed to Orangeville. The younger age group is prohibited from knowing their scores but it was reported that they all had fun.

The Club is heading to London this weekend (April 29 and 20) for another competition.
