winterhawks fullWinterhawks Captain Greg Thede scored twice to lift his team to victory in Seaforth on Saturday night.

Thede broke a tie with just under three minutes to play to give the Winterhawks a 4-2 win over the Huron East Centenaires in the inaugural battle between the two clubs.

Both teams came out hard, trading chances in a fast-paced game but Blake Sinclair in the Winterhawks net and Jesse Raymond for Huron East kept their respective nets clear of pucks through the first period.

Thede got things going late in the 2nd, opening the scoring on a goal assisted by James McHaig at 15:06. Huron East answered back in the 3rd, scoring twice 1:29 apart to quickly turn a deficit into a 2-1 lead for the home team.

Brent MacDermid would tie things up just over a minute later on an unassisted goal followed by Thede's winning goal four minutes later, assisted by Alex Kuntz.

Sinclair boarded up the Winterhawks net from there, while Brendon Haefling added an empty netter with 42 seconds remaining with assists going to Nick Quaid and Theo Peckham.

Sinclair made 32 saves for the win in goal.

The win improves the Winterhawks to 4-1-0 on the season and they hope to take a four-game winning streak on the road again on Friday, November 4 when they make the long trek to Petrolia to face the Squires.
