Fifteen G.C.Huston students, along with their teacher Mr. Alexander, spent the morning of June 22 at the Saugeen Shores BMX Track in Port Elgin.

The students rode their bikes from Southampton and played a few games, participated in relay races and enjoyed some freezes from Martin’s Bicycle Shop.

Martin’s owner Brett Martin, along with Saugeen District Secondary School student Christian Chin, were on hand at the inspired field trip.

“We’re just kinda doing some fun games and teaching them how to ride the track and hopefully we’ll get some new racers out of the group,” said Martin.

“We have practices Monday nights, we’re racing on Wednesday nights and we have an open house coming up in July; and also a provincial qualifier race in August,” Martin said.

Towards the end of the trip students separated into four relays with top riders from each competing against each other in a race around the dirt track. Riders Spencer Sutter-Lamie and Ethan Morley were the top racers that day. For more information on Saugeen Shores BMX visit www.ssbmx.com.
