Saugeen Shores native, Josh Cassidy, a two-time Paralympian, is on his way to the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio this September and is turning to his supporters to help with the cost of a new chair, among other things.

Cassidy currently holds the record for the world’s fastest Wheelchair Marathon from his 2012 race in Boston with a time of 1:18:25. He is also a two-time Paralympian, 28 time Canadian Champion, the current Canadian Record holder in three races as well as a medalist in the the Para PanAm Games, World Championship and the Commonwealth Games.

Cassidy competed in the both the Boston and London Marathons this April with disappointing results due, in part, to older equipment.

Cassidy is turning to his fans and supporters through a gofundme page:

“Despite his world standing, and all of his accomplishments, funding is extremely challenging. The cost for winter training camps, international competitions, equipment, proper nutrition, and rehabilitation support adds up to nearly $70,000. Josh has accumulated the maximum amount of personal debt possible in his quest for gold.”
