The best of the best were invited to play in the Bluewater Athletic Association’s All-Star Basketball game, hosted by Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) March 30.

From across Grey-Bruce, the top male basketball prospects played for either the North or South teams in junior and senior levels. With the South winning both games 71-67 for the juniors, and 77-75 for the seniors. The senior game was highly intense with many aggressive plays which came down to a dramatic buzzer beater shot by SDSS student Winston Murphy. There was even a 3-pointer contest with players from the North winning the acolades.

Senior Coach Kevin Darlington of SDSS, said the Bluewater Athletic Association All-Star game has been an end of season tradition for six years, and players are selected by coaches who choose the best and most dedicated players to take part.

“This is a fun night for the best players to get together. These players work well together because they know how to space the floor, so they end up sometimes playing better in this game than they do with their own team,” said Darlington before the game, March 30.

The North featured top players from St. Mary’s, Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute, West Hill Secondary, and Georgian Bay Secondary,

The South featured students from SDSS, Kincardine, Sacred Heart, John Diefenbaker Secondary, Walkerton and Chesley High Schools.

Luke Zettle of Sacred Heart in Walkerton barely got past St. Mary’s Liam Behtune to receive two more points for the South.

South player Winston Murphy saw an open-man in teammate Thomas Forsyth during the All-Star game, March 30.

Ben Christie of Kincardine had a nice layup during the first half of the game against the North.
