The Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLC) had a great showing at the Provincial Pool Lifesaving Championships in Guelph March 5 and 6. In the Masters category, the Club came in second out of a total of eight teams; and in the Seniors category, another second, this time out of a total of 12 teams.

In addition to great overall results, the SSLC members showed well individually.

In the Women 16-19 category, Madison Ashton finished first; In the open Women’s category, Danielle Sullivan finished second.

For the SSLC men, in the 16-19 age group, Dan Reardon tied for third overall; and Open Men’s athletes scored plenty of points for the club although weren’t able to break third.

SSLC gave a shout out to the volunteer officials as well as Doug Bohnert and Jodie and Al Lofts; Head Coach, Michael Hundt; Assistant Coaches, Katie Stoner, Tyler Donaldson and Karen Gill; and Den Mother, Tammy Donaldson. They also wished to thank the Town and sponsors for their ongoing support.

Imagine a 100- or 200- metre front crawl race with a barrier at the water's surface under which the swimmers have to swim with each length; or swimming with partially- and fully-filled mannequins. From a March 14 press release, “Carrying the filled mannequin is similar to carrying a 20 pound brick.”

The SSLC athletes taking part in this year’s Provincial competition were:
Senior Women: Madison Ashton, Katie Stoner, Carlin Reid, Rachel Bohnert, Cassidy Kazimer; Amy Lowe, Danielle Sullivan, Caitlin Sullivan
Senior Men: Mike Bohnert, Dan Reardon, Cameron McEwen, Tyler Donaldson, Geoffrey Midgley, Michael Hundt, James Ali, Dayton Salmon
Masters Women: Tessa Alpaugh, Cathy McNeil, Heather Parsons, Pat Gruter-Larson, Sarah Ingleton, Shanna Reid, Karen Gill, Judy Stoner
