The Southampton BIA is inviting the public to review and discuss the concepts for a High Street Renewal Plan at a public meeting May 20.

The business association commissioned the development of the Plan from Kitchener's John MacDonald Architect and will present it to Saugeen Shores Council in the weeks ahead.

"The Plan was initiated to address concerns regarding the condition of infrastructure such as hydro, sewer, asphalt, and sidewalks along with safety concerns and opportunities for pertinent cultural and art installations and overall beautification," read an April 24 media release from the Business Improvement Association in hopes that some concepts from the Plan can be incorporated when High Street's infrastructure is addressed.

“We have an opportunity to improve Southampton’s Downtown infrastructure and create enhanced shopping and dining experiences along with safe cycling and pedestrian movement," said BIA's Bruce Martin, who headed up the sub-committee overseeing the development of the Plan.

"We believe this Plan will serve all of Southampton’s businesses, residents and visitors," said BIA Chair Sara Porter. "We feel this Plan will not only maintain, but enhance the small town charm we all love."

The public meeting will be held at the Southampton Town Hall, on Saturday, May 20, from 10am to 12pm.
