Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is hosting a workshop for parents and students to help families find, apply for, and get approved for scholarships, bursaries, and awards to support post-secondary education.
“At the Foundation we offer 29 scholarships just for local students to apply for through our website every year. This year, there will be about $132,000 supporting our community in their post-secondary education” said Stuart Reid, Executive Director of CFGB in an April 20 media release.
Opportunities are available for students attending university, college, and trade schools, and many are open to students continuing in their second, or upper years of education.
The virtual workshop will be held on May 2, 2023 at 7pm and will address questions on the different types of education grants, how to find scholarships, as well as tips and tricks for applicants.
"We will also be sharing information during the workshop about the provincial OSAP program," the release said.
CFGB Grant Coordinator Jen Legge said it can feel like a complicated world to navigate for students and "that’s why we are always improving our Pay for School search, and simplifying our application process. We’re here as a resource for families."
“We are so fortunate to have generous individuals and organizations that have created endowments for the purposes of granting scholarships in perpetuity," Reid said, adding that their list keeps growing.
"This year we have a new scholarship to grant thanks to the Optimist Club of Sydenham and District," Reid added.
Students and parents can register for the workshop on the CFGB website. Information and applications for students can also be accessed there, and the Pay for School search engine has over 300 additional scholarship opportunities across the province.
