The Town of Saugeen Shores is looking to fill the Southampton ward vacancy following the resignation of John Rich. At their September 27 meeting, Council resolved to fill this vacancy by appointment, said an October 4 media release.

Interested candidates must be an eligible voter and be either a Saugeen Shores resident; or own land or be the spouse of an owner of land in Saugeen Shores. Eligible candidates do do not need to live in the Southampton ward. If appointed, they would serve from the date of the Council appointment to when the new Council is sworn in after the 2022 municipal election.

Applications must be received in person no later than 2pm on Monday, October 18.

Once applications are received, Council will hold a Council Appointment Meeting where applicants will have an opportunity to address Council and existing council members will vote. The chosen candidate must receive more than half the votes of voting members on Council.
