The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) is preparing to welcome visitors back with a gradual reopening, starting on August 10, 2020 as they open to members then on August 24, 2020 they will open to the general public.

In a July 31 media release from BCM&CC, protocols will be in place that follow guidelines under Stage 3 of the provincial framework for re-opening as well as the advice of Grey Bruce Public Health officials.

"Things have changed since your last visit, BCM&CC is happy to have you back, and as they re-open to the public, they ask you to work with them to keep the Museum a safe place for yourself, for all visitors and for staff by following safety measures in place," read the release.

“Over the last several months we have all been navigating our new normal and staff have been innovating our services to stay connected and engaged with our communities. While your next experience at the BCM&CC might look a little different, you can rest assured that we remain committed to providing the same great service and memorable experiences in a safe and welcoming environment," said Cathy McGirr, Director, Museum and Cultural Services.

Those wishing to visit BCM&CC will need to schedule their visit ahead of time online at brucemuseum.ca, with two available times available each day: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is in alignment with the indoor gathering limits of 50 people. Children ages 4 and under are still free but will need to be included in your entire party number.

Ticket holders will need to print their tickets ahead of time and bringing them to the museum for their designated timeframe. Visitors who do not have an appointment will only be accommodated as time and space allow.

Revised hours of operation are Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Archives and Research Room will operate on a Tuesday to Friday schedule, is accessible to researchers only at this time, with two times available: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Researchers who would like to visit in person will need to book their appointment ahead of time by calling 226-909-2890. There will be a maximum of one researcher permitted for each time, along with new physical distancing protocols that have been put in place.

Some services will not be available including the gift shop, facility rentals, the Bruce Power Theatre, the Mackenzie Log Home and the Log Schoolhouse.

"BCM&CC wants you to feel comfortable and safe when you visit so you can enjoy exploring Bruce County history once again," read the release. "Some people may not feel comfortable visiting just yet, so with this in mind the BCM&CC will continue to offer virtual activities and online programs, you can stay in touch and continue to follow them on Facebook and Instagram."
