Team registration for SDSS's first ever Saugeen Shares Food Drive, to be conducted in Port Elgin and Southampton December 7 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Students and staff of Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) will be conducting their first ever Saugeen Shares Food Drive on the morning of Saturday, December 7 between 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the municipality of Saugeen Shores.
In a SDSS media release, over 200 school and community volunteers, teams of four students and an adult driver, will be going door-to-door in Port Elgin and Southampton collecting non-perishable food items and personal care products (diapers, feminine hygeine products, toiletries) for the local Salvation Army Food Bank.
Residents are welcome to leave a bag of donated goods clearly marked for Saugeen Shores on their doorstep. Alternatively items can be dropped off at the school, 780 Gustavus Street, on the same day until 1 p.m.
The food drive is fashioned after the annual Christmas Knights held in Kincardine, now in its 23rd year. "Thank you to all of the local businesses, groups and individuals who have contacted the school to lend a hand," read the release. "We would particularly like to thank the Cham-bettes, The Power Workers's Union, Scott Rowland at Rowland's Independent and Mike Berry at Giant Tiger."
"Our local food bank and our fellow citizens need our help. We live in a very generous community and we are looking forward to seeing that generosity in action," the release concluded.
