2019 was another good year for pollinators and monarchs in Saugeen Shores. In a Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores (BGOSS) media release, much of the success is attributed to local residents who are seeing the benefits of planting milkweed and native plants in their gardens as well as the growing interest of BGOSS.
From 81 monarchs tagged in 2015 and 80 in 2016, the number has steadily increased with 2017 seeing 275 monarchs tagged, 893 in 2018 and 1,516 in 2019.
BGOSS believes that "If you plant it, they will come. And come they have."
