The corner of Green and Goderich Street in Port Elgin was a twinkling blur of activity as the Christmas Tree in Coulter Parkette was lit up for the annual Tree Lighting ceremony.

Downtown Port Elgin shone a little brighter after the official Tree Lighting in Coulter Parkette on November 14. Crowds gathered along Green Street as four different groups from the SB Dance Academy performed dance numbers.
Two of Santa’s reindeer stopped in to celebrate the onset of the holiday season and helped get Port Elgin residents big and small into the Christmas spirit. Children happily played in the thick blanket of snow that had fallen the previous evening, enhancing the holiday atmosphere.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau once again flicked the switch with help from his son Marty and volunteer Charlotte from the crowd, causing the tree to sparkle brightly as a mitten-muffled applause spread through the crowd. Stores along Goderich Street were open late to allow eager residents to get a head start on their Christmas shopping.

The opening act from Sandra Belanger’s Dance Academy dazzled the onlookers with their sequinned skirts and fancy feet.
Grade 5/6 dancers from the SB Dance Academy heated up the night with a spicy jazz number performed in front of the crowd gathered for the 2019 Port Elgin Tree Lighting and Shoppers Night November 14.
