Patrick Dennis, author of Reluctant Warriors: Canadian Conscripts and the Great War, will be at Bruce County Museum November 7.

Each year the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre delivers a program called “A Time to Remember” to honour and thank all who have served and sacrificed for our country. This year Patrick Dennis, author of “Reluctant Warriors: Canadian Conscripts and the Great War”, will be presenting stories of conscripted soldiers from the Great War including soldiers from Bruce County. Conscription was sometimes called the draft and is the compulsory enlistment of people, most often to military service.

In a Bruce County Museum media release, a graduate of the University of Windsor, Dennis is a retired Air Force Colonel. Trained as a Fighter Controller, he served abroad for over 22 years, including tours as Canada’s Deputy Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium and as the Defence Attaché to Israel. He is also a graduate of the United States Armed Forces Staff College and the NATO Defence College.

After leaving the military, Dennis lectured on global political-military affairs at Wilfrid Laurier University and was a part-time instructor with the Canadian Forces College, Toronto, specializing in command and management and the law of armed conflict. “Reluctant Warriors: Canadian Conscripts and the Great War” is Patrick’s first book.

A Time to Remember will take place November 7 with doors and a cash bar opening at 7pm. The presentation will begin at 7:30. Admission is $10 plus HST for members and $14 plus HST for non members. Veterans attend for free.
