Saugeen Shores' Lamont Sports Park has been awarded the $250,000 grand prize from the Kraft Heinz Project Play contest.

Following a nomination process with contributions by community members, the final four were selected by a panel of judges with the project's importance to the community, the community's spirit and passion for play, and the number of stories received during the nomination process all taken into account.

The power shifted back to the community for the voting period which took place this past weekend when over 2 million votes were cast over a 48 hour period from Friday to Sunday, October 18 to 20. Saugeen Shores' Lamont Sports Park was announced the winner on TSN Sportscentre Monday.

From an October 22 Kraft Heinz Project Play media release, the contest "provides Canadian communities with the opportunity to repair local sports facilities and build better places to play. With a growing waitlist to play baseball, fastball and softball at Lamont Sports Park, building additional fields will create more opportunities for the Saugeen Shores community to play. The grand prize will go towards the construction of new ball diamonds to help get more community members involved."

Other communities in the final four included Lanigan, Saskatchewan (Lanigan Swimming Pool); Nepean, Ontario (Twin Elm Rugby Park) and Salmon Arm, British Columbia (The Larch Hills Nordic Society Trail Lighting Project). Runners up will receive $25,000 each.
