UPDATE: In a July 7 update from South Bruce OPP, the man pulled from Lake Huron off the shores of Southampton Friday morning has died. The incident is still under investigation and the man has not been identified.
On July 5, 2019 at 9 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was informed of a small aluminum boat travelling in circles in the water of Lake Huron just off the shores in Southampton.
In media releases from South Bruce OPP, the South Bruce Marine Unit and Grey Bruce Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as the Saugeen Shores Police Service, Saugeen Shores Fire Department, the Canadian Coast Guard and Bruce County Paramedic Services attended.
Prior to the arrival of emergency services personnel, three boaters pulled the adult male from the water and begin performing CPR. They transported the male to the docks at the Chesley Street Boat Launch in Southampton.
Three officers from Saugeen Shores Police utilized an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and continued CPR. Shortly after Bruce County EMS arrived and transported the man to the Southampton hospital where is he listed in critical condition.
The Ontario Provincial Police is continuing to investigate this incident and it is unknown at this time what led to these circumstances.
