G.C. Huston Public School's graduating class of 2019.

Friends, family members and faculty gathered at G.C. Huston Public School June 26 in celebration and recognition of the Grade 8 class of 2019 as the graduating students prepared to fly the Huston Hawks nest and start their next chapter at high school in September.
Principal Hugh Morrison said that what made G.C. Huston unique was the lessons that the students received in how to care. “When you go from here, I know that you're going to do great things and I know that you're going to be successful, but more than anything else I want to challenge you tonight,” he said. “I want to challenge you to show that you can care beyond what anyone else can...and most of all value the relationships you make."
With special relationships in mind, Morrison invited a special guest to this year's graduation ceremony, former G.C. Huston Principal Dan Russell, who was greeted with hugs from his former students and cheers and applause from their supporters.
Russell said that the invitation from Morrison meant a lot to him. “I was with this group of Grade 8s for eight years and we all grew up together from Senior Kindergarten so it was very special for Hugh and the Grade 8s to invite me back," he said. "I love my new school but it's like coming home to G.C.," said Russell.
Valedictorians Mya Falesy and Maddy Sheehan spoke about special memories they had made during their time at G.C. Huston and thanked their classmates for the time they had spent together. “Everyone is so supportive and caring of each other that it feels more than just classmates,” said Sheehan. “It feels like you're family.”
After awards and diplomas were presented to the graduating students, a slide show of their adventures through their years at G.C. Huston was shown.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening, G.C. Huston teacher Dana Mogk, closed the ceremony by telling the graduating students that staff members were very proud of them and that they would be missed. “Always remember, once a Hawk, always a Hawk," she said.
