The Victoria Day long weekend is the unofficial start to the summer in Saugeen Shores. In a Saugeen Shores Police Service media release, during this weekend Saugeen Shores experiences a higher volume of vehicles and pedestrian traffic. Licenced establishments have an increase in business and our leisure areas are inundated with people.
Motorists can expect to see officers conducting high visibility patrols to enforce provisions under the Highway Traffic Act.
On Sunday, May 19th the Saugeen “River Run” takes place. This is an unofficial event that has been happening for several years. Officers will be detailed to enhanced patrols and RIDE programs to ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws during this event.
Water levels in Saugeen Shores are at historic highs. This translates to fast flowing and extremely cold river water. During the River Run all persons must wear a personal flotation device or face a $240 fine under the Canada Shipping Act, Small Vessel Regulations.
The Saugeen Shores Police Service is striving to assist residents and tourists to have the safest and most enjoyable weekend possible.
